Get a Long-Lasting Youthful Look at the Milwaukee and Madison Area’s Parkins Plastic Surgery
Signs of aging can be difficult to conceal—and they are often most visible on the face and neck. Makeup can help somewhat in creating a youthful aesthetic, but the ideal way to effectively turn back the clock and look at least a decade younger is surgery. With a neck lift and facelift in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, area, Dr. Maida Parkins provides focused surgery to help patients achieve the hallmark of youth and beauty: smooth, firm skin around the face and neck.
What Makes a Good Facelift or Neck Lift Candidate?
Women and men whose skin has loosened and sagged with age can benefit from facelift surgery to create a better-defined jawline and other improvements from the mid-face down. Many patients who are interested in a facelift also qualify for a neck lift and love how they look with a combination of both procedures. Of the many telltale signs of aging, excess skin and fat on the neck are prominent and difficult to disguise.
You may need a neck lift if you have what is commonly referred to as a turkey wattle, which is made up of wobbly and drooping skin on the neck. This can also manifest as visible neck banding that makes the area look gaunt and aged. Surgery removes this excess tissue and creates improved neck contours.
Personalized Facelift and Neck Lift Consultations for Milwaukee and Madison
Dr. Parkins prioritizes giving patients the procedures they need to benefit their unique features and aesthetic goals. This process starts with a personalized, thorough consultation that includes a brief physical exam so she can assess your degree of skin laxity and determine the ideal approach.
This consultation is also when she encourages patients to ask whatever questions they have about their current appearance, their desired look, and her own experience and approach to facelift and neck lift surgery. Dr. Parkins makes it a point to educate her patients so they feel comfortable and confident under her care. It’s this approach that makes our boutique practice unique.
After an examination of skin tone and quality on the face and neck, Dr. Parkins can detail your treatment plan.

What Are the Benefits of a Facelift?
There are many reasons to choose a facelift. Many patients pursue this procedure after having routine dermal fillers and BOTOX® for many years, then discovering that these injectables are not providing enough of a lift to combat deep-set wrinkles and facial sagging that comes with age. The advantages of a facelift include the following, among many others:
While injectables are temporary, a facelift creates long-lasting results. Though your face will continue to age from the time of your facelift surgery, you won’t need a maintenance schedule of injectable treatments to ensure your results are durable.
Aging and gravity create sagging skin over the years, which contributes to heaviness in the midface and jowls. While collagen production is at its peak in a person’s youth, it slows in advancing years, making skin less resilient and firm. Facelift surgery repositions these delicate soft tissues and improves the underlying muscle support, so you look naturally rejuvenated.
Patients are often worried about what their scars will look like in the highly visible areas of their face after a facelift. Depending on your needs and the extent of facial sagging, incisions are typically placed around the natural lines of the ear and hairline. The resulting scars are faint and imperceptible. They will not stand out or detract from your appearance.
What Does a Facelift and Neck Lift Involve?
General anesthesia is typically provided before facelift and neck lift surgery. This puts the patient to sleep.
Dr. Parkins places an incision near the hairline, but some incisions can be made behind the ear or at the earlobe. Through these incisions, Dr. Parkins can reposition the underlying SMAS muscles, which support the soft tissue’s new position. Excess skin is trimmed away at the incision sites.
If the supporting muscles also need to be addressed, an incision may be placed under the chin. With this comprehensive approach, Dr. Parkins can make your treatment as effective as possible, with natural-looking results. After placing the incisions, Dr. Parkins removes excess skin and some fat from the area, so the resulting profile is smooth and taut.
You will recover from the general anesthesia in our Lake Country office. Facelifts and neck lifts are outpatient procedures, so you will be allowed to return home to recuperate under the care of a family member or loved one.
Recovery After Facelift and Neck Lift Surgery
Patients can expect to take at least a week away from work after their surgery. Many people are concerned more with appearing in public than with any discomfort they may feel. For the first few days, you will be on a cycle of medication and rest. After two weeks, much of the initial bruising will resolve. Over the next month, as swelling subsides, patients will see their results mature. Depending on your comfort level in working and professional environments, you can get back to your normal routine in seven to 10 days, with a limitation in physical exertion to maximize your health and safety.
