What Makes a Good CoolSculpting® Candidate?
Since there is no need for invasive surgery and general anesthesia, CoolSculpting® can be an effective fat-reduction treatment for many patients. Dr. Parkins frequently recommends this nonsurgical procedure for patients who are unable to spot-eliminate fat with exercise; have persistent fat deposits created by aging, pregnancy, or weight loss and gain; want sleeker body contours in certain areas; want to avoid the downtime associated with surgery; and aren’t ready for or interested in liposuction.
Patients do not have to be at a specific weight or BMI to benefit from CoolSculpting®, through Dr. Parkins does recommend that they be at or near their goal weight to see their desired results. Treatment reduces fat by about 20 to 25 percent in targeted areas and should not be considered a weight loss solution. If you are in good general health and want to enjoy a better-contoured physique, Dr. Parkins can help.

What Does CoolSculpting® Involve?
CoolSculpting® uses technology developed to harness the effects of cryolipolysis, which prompts death in fat cells by freezing them. Harvard researchers created this technology after noticing the development of dimples in children who frequently ate popsicles.
During a treatment session, paddle-type devices are positioned in the areas discussed during your consultation and applied directly to the skin. Gentle suctioning then pulls the tissue toward these applicators to maximize the fat-freezing effect. Temperatures are calibrated to target only fat cells below the surface, while not adversely impacting the skin itself. When fat cells freeze, they become unstable and die off to be eventually drained out of the body through the lymphatic system.
Patients sit comfortably for about 35 minutes while the machine does its job. You will feel an intense cooling sensation, which may be odd at first, but eventually creates a numbing effect so you can read or watch your favorite shows in comfort. After the applicators have been removed, lymphatic massage is provided to improve results. This is the only part of the process that may create feelings of discomfort.
The resulting slimmer body contours can trigger a boost in self-confidence. Best of all, since your body naturally removes the treated fat cells with no work on your part after the session, there is no downtime needed for recovery.
What Sets Dr. Parkins Apart for CoolSculpting®?
Dr. Parkins and her team have extensive experience with CoolSculpting®—including assessing patients to determine who would best benefit from the treatment. Every session is conducted with care, so patients can feel secure in their decision and confident in their treatment and results.
Recovery After CoolSculpting®
Patients say they love CoolSculpting® because the procedure is quick, and they do not have to take time off from work or their daily routine to recover. They can simply return home or to work right after their session. Feelings of numbness and tingling may persist for the first few weeks, but these are expected and will fade on their own.
The slimmed-down results will also develop and mature during this time as the body processes the damaged fat cells and naturally removes them from the treatment areas.

CoolSculpting® FAQs
Across the board, CoolSculpting® consistently delivers around 20 percent fat reduction per treatment within a target area. More considerable results are possible with multiple sessions. The body-sculpting treatment’s specific effectiveness varies from patient to patient. Individuals within 30 pounds of their goal weight and struggling with trouble spots of excess fat tend to see the best results.
CoolSculpting® and lipo are very different procedures, though both reduce unwanted fat. CoolSculpting® is entirely non-invasive and freezes away fat below the skin. Once the cells are dead, the body naturally gets rid of them over the following four to 12 weeks. Power-assisted liposuction uses energy to break up fat cells, which are then suctioned out via a cannula inserted through an incision.
The fat cells killed off by CoolSculpting® are gone for good. If you gain weight after the procedure, you won’t grow new fat cells in the treated area—but be aware that the remaining fat cells may expand. To maintain the best results possible, you’ll need to keep up with regular exercise and a healthy diet.
CoolSculpting® is not a weight-loss tool, and it is not intended for patients who are looking to lose weight. Instead, it is ideal for creating slimmer contours in parts of the body that don’t respond to exercise and a healthy diet. CoolSculpting® also only removes fat cells found just under the skin. Losing weight through lifestyle changes reduces deeper visceral fat, which the CoolSculpting® process cannot address.
Absolutely! Our team of specialists uses CoolSculpting® to help our male clients create a sculpted and toned abdominal V and reveal torso muscles, as well as to build and complement broad shoulders and shape the waist, chest, abs, and pecs.
The number of treatments necessary depends on the size and number of trouble spots you want to treat. Smaller areas treated with CoolSculpting® for the chin or neck often respond beautifully to just one or two sessions, thanks to their small surface areas. Larger areas like the abdomen, however, can require several rounds with the device—though one or two treatments can still produce visible results. Our patients looking for more dramatic results tend to need between three and nine total sessions.
We advise our clients wait a minimum of 30 days between treatments for maximum results.
CoolSculpting® is FDA-approved and safe. There’s also a very small chance of lasting numbness, which usually resolves within a month. You may also be a bit sore on the following day, as though you had done an intense workout. Dr. Parkins can discuss any concerns you may have during your consultation, as well as go over the possible risks and side effects.
Other Body Contouring Options
Patients who want fat-reduction results that are visible sooner can choose liposuction. Surgery can create more dramatic contour changes that are visible right away, making it an appealing choice for certain people.
Excess fat is not the only issue for some patients. People with excess skin that creates a lax and flabby look can benefit from a tummy tuck, which flattens the belly and can repair separated abdominal muscles.
