What Does Fat Grafting Involve?
We have a generally set number of fat cells once we reach adulthood, and the way this fat is distributed is something that we can’t control through traditional weight loss techniques. Fat transfer or fat grafting involves harvesting fat cells from one area of the body where you have more than enough, processing them, and then carefully injecting them in an area where they can provide a welcome boost in volume.
Injecting living fat cells during fat grafting augmentation can provide more projection and shape. This surgery is commonly known as a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) when used on the buttocks, creating rounder curves and a firmer backside.
The fat transfer technique can also be used on the breasts for fat transfer breast augmentation to provide a modest increase or be paired with implants to soften the edges and give the ultimate results an even more natural appearance.
Another common area to fat graft are the hip depressions, commonly referred to as “hip dips”. Hips dips are a naturally occurring feature in many women and vary based on an individual’s pelvis, hip anatomy, and location of fat deposits. By selectively liposuctioning areas above and below the hip dip and grafting fat into the depression itself, Dr. Maida Parkins is able to contour this area to seamlessly blend the transition from hips to buttock to thighs.
