What Causes Gynecomastia?
The development of male breasts can occur for many reasons, such as weight gain and hormonal imbalance. Some notice the appearance of breasts during puberty, and while this issue often dissipates through the course of puberty, other individuals notice the effect lingers and persists into young adulthood. Gynecomastia may also be present in patients who take certain medications and those who use steroids.
Breasts can be the result of excess fatty deposits in the area or a surplus of glandular tissue. Both will create localized tissue enlargement, creating the appearance of breasts. In many cases, excess fat is caused by weight fluctuations, and glandular tissue is created by certain drugs and hormone fluctuations.
