LIP LIFT

Elevate Your Upper Lip for a Youthful Look at the Milwaukee and Madison Area’s Parkins Plastic Surgery

A lip lift (sometimes known as a bullhorn lip lift or subnasal lip lift) is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the upper lip by shortening the distance between the lip and the base of the nose. It is typically performed to address concerns such as a long or thin upper lip to create a more balanced, youthful, and volumized look. A lip lift in the Madison or Milwaukee area by Dr. Lucas Boehm helps patients achieve the balanced facial appearance the want.

What Makes a Good Lip Lift Candidate?

A lip lift is a great option for women and men who want to enhance the appearance of their upper lip. This procedure can improve the signs of aging by shortening the space between the bottom of the nose and the top of the upper lip, increasing the visibility of the vermillion (the pinkish part of the lip), creating a fuller anymore defined upper lip. A consultation with Dr. Lucas Boehm at the Madison and Milwaukee Area Parkins Plastic Surgery can help determine if an upper lip lift is right for you.

Personalized Lip Lift Consultations for Milwaukee and Madison

Dr. Boehm prioritizes the procedures he suggests to patients to compliment their unique features and aesthetic goals. This process starts with a personalized, thorough consultation that includes a brief physical exam so he can address your aesthetic concerns and determine the ideal approach. This consultation encourages patients to ask any questions they may have, converse about their desired aesthetic, and allows Dr. Boehm to talk about his experience with and his approach to rejuvenation of the upper lip one-on-one with the patient. Dr. Boehm believes in educating his patients on their options so that they feel comfortable and confident under his care.

What Are the Benefits of a Lip Lift?

There are many reasons to choose lip lift surgery. Some patients are interested in this procedure after trying lip fillers or a lip flip using Botox/Dysport, only to discover that these options do not provide the permanent solution they are looking for. The advantages of lip lift surgery include the following:

Lasting Results

One of the main benefits of lip lift surgery is that the results are long-lasting. While not completely permanent (as the results can be impacted by aging), lip lifts last much longer than lip filler and Botox/Dysport treatments.

Youthful, Balanced Look

Because lip lifts remove part of the skin and tissue between the nose and upper lip, it brings more upper lip tissue outward creating the appearance of a fuller, more youthful upper lip without injectables. This can compliment and provide balance to your natural facial features.

Boost Self-Esteem

Lip lifts give many women and men a self-esteem boost. They feel like their upper lip match the rest of their face and provide the look they desire.

What Does a Lip Lift Surgery Involve?

Anesthesia

A lip lift can be done under general or local anesthesia, with most patients opting for local anesthesia. General anesthesia puts the patient to sleep while local numbs the area with the patient awake during surgery. Overall, anesthesia is very safe for most patients. Some health factors can increase the risk of complications during surgery for certain patients because of the interactions with anesthesia. Talking about these factors with a primary care physician and Dr. Boehm before surgery is essential to reduce as much risk as possible.

Incisions

The lip lift incision is performed right under the nose, above the upper lip. The skin and tissue are lifted to give the appearance of a fuller, more youthful-looking upper lip. The incision hides under the nose, and the scarring will fade with time and proper care.

Recovery

If your surgery is under general anesthesia, you will recover from anesthesia in our Lake Country surgical center. The surgical center is in the same building where you meet Dr. Boehm and the Parkins Plastic Surgery team for all of the pre-op and post-op appointments. Lip Lifts are outpatient procedures, so you can return home to recuperate under the care of a family member/loved one. Local anesthesia requires less recovery time, and you can often drive yourself home after surgery.

Recovery After Lip Lift Surgery

Patients can expect to take at least 1-7 days away from work after lip lift surgery, depending on your job requirements. For the first few days after surgery, patients are on a cycle of medication and rest. Over the next 5-10 days, as the swelling subsides, patients will see their results mature. Sutures are removed 5-7 days after surgery. Depending on your comfort level in working and professional environments, you can get back to your normal routine in approximately 7 days, with a limitation in physical exertion to maximize your health and safety.
